Boomer Highway Radio Talk: Get Help For Aging Parents

Many of us need helping when caring for aging parents.

Do you have concerns about parental memory loss, how dementia differs from Alzheimer’s, when to take the car keys away, when and how to choose a senior facility for mom or dad, how hospice works??  Then listen to my talk from w4wn.com.  I address  these issues and more.

  1. Beth,

I am not surprised how well you did on the radio. Especially since you had little help from the interviewer. You were left on your own, and you were loaded with good, helpful information. You are a boomer winner!!

  2. THANKS FOR THE BOOMER WINNER TAG. I REALLY LIKE THAT, PAT. I DO HOPE THAT SOME OF MY MESSAGES HELP OTHERS. IT CAN BE A LONG ROAD AND EVERY SITUATION IS A LITTLE DIFFERENT, BUT IT HELPS TO KNOW HOW OTHERS HAVE MANAGED. BETH

  3. I thought this interview spoke well to many of the problems we all share with aging parents. Beth, you were very well spoken on the radio, and specific about all the areas many of us need to understand and address. The most helpful hint, when dealing with someone with dementia, is to come to your meeting with photos, stories, or any other visual aids to help move the conversation along. I find this a great help with my Mom…….

    • Thanks again for helping me get this ready for the blog and for your positive comments. Every person’s parent or loved one has different needs and wants, but being able to sit and talk about something–maybe even a photograph of their favorite football team–helps to keep things going. Beth

  4. Really enjoyed your radio interview Beth! I especially liked your suggestions on bringing in old photographs when visiting elderly loved ones in assisted care facilities or nursing homes. Instead of trying to talk about the present or what they did yesterday (which they might not remember) it is nice to reminisce about good times you spent together during your lives. Being able to show pictures and say, “this is us going to the park with your grandson little Sammy…” is much more enjoyable and brings a smile to their face as well. I am in the senior medical alarm system industry and we try and help seniors & caregivers as best as possible. Resources such as your website and this radio interview are great tools for caregivers to use, lean on, and help them with whatever challenge they may be facing. Thanks Beth! Have a great day 🙂

    • Thanks so much for your comments and for doing what you do in your industry to help seniors and caregivers. It’s all about working together. I truly enjoyed doing the radio program. My blog has lots of articles about helping elderly parents as my mom is 96 with dementia. I have an article about taking the checkbook away, dementia drugs and hospice and palliative care to name a few. Thanks again, Beth
